Our History
The story of Margem Credit Cooperative — from humble beginnings to a trusted community institution.
Margem Credit Cooperative was founded in _______ by a small group of community members who shared a vision: to create a financial institution that would serve the people, not profit from them. Starting with just 4 members and a modest pool of contributions, the cooperative opened its first office in a borrowed space at the local community center.
In its early years, the cooperative focused on helping members save and access small loans for emergencies and livelihood opportunities. Word spread quickly about the fair treatment and personal care members received, and by 2026, membership had grown to over 600.
A major milestone came in 2008 when Margem Credit Cooperative was officially registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), giving it formal recognition and the ability to offer a wider range of financial services. This milestone marked the beginning of a period of rapid growth and professionalization.
In 2024, the cooperative launched its mortuary aid program, providing a safety net for members and their families during times of loss. This program has since become one of the most valued benefits of membership.
By 2026, Margem Credit Cooperative had surpassed 600 active members and managed over ₱5 million in assets. The cooperative introduced time deposits and expanded its loan products to serve the diverse needs of its growing membership.
Today, Margem Credit Cooperative stands as a model of financial inclusion and community empowerment. With over 600 active members and ₱5 million in assets, we remain true to our founding principles: member ownership, democratic control, and shared prosperity. We look to the future with confidence, committed to serving our members and our community for generations to come.
